César Bourgois Named to 2021 SEC Community Service Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – César Bourgois was named to the 2021 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team on Thursday, becoming the first Kentucky men’s tennis player ever bestowed the honor in three consecutive seasons.

As one of two team captains and the lone fifth-year elder statesman, Bourgois led the Wildcats in community service hours during a year that presented limited opportunities due to health and safety protocols. In the past, the Paris native has provided multiple hours working with God’s Pantry on campus, packaging and delivering food to local elementary schools in Lexington. Bourgois spent multiple hours with Special Olympics Kentucky, and the bulk of his time was dedicated to teaching local youth the game of tennis at the Wildcat Tennis Club.

Last year, Bourgois became the fourth player in school history named to the SEC Community Service Team in back-to-back seasons. He was also named to the Frank G. Ham Society of Character—honoring UK athletes who have shown an extraordinary commitment to academic excellence, athletic participation, personal development, career preparation and serving as a role model—and is a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member.
