No. 18 Kentucky Falls 1-0 in Overtime at UAB
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In its sixth overtime contest of the 2020-21 season, No. 18 Kentucky (9-4-1, 1-3 Conference USA) fell 1-0 to UAB (3-9-1, 1-2-1 C-USA) on Saturday at BBVA Field.
Following a 2-0 win at home for the Wildcats last fall, the Blazers even the season series with their first head-to-head victory since 2016.
The teams ended regulation with an even shot count of 8-8 overall, including 2-2 on goal. However, UAB managed two additional shots in the extra period, including the game winner by Brooks Rice in the 98th minute.
The sides combined for 22 fouls, though Kentucky’s Marcel Meinzer and Daniel Evans received the match’s only yellow cards.
Evans tied with Jansen Wilson for the most UK shot attempts with two apiece, while Meinzer, Robert Screen, Enzo Mauriz and Brock Lindow each tried one.
Kentucky goalkeeper Cyrus Margono recorded two saves in his third career start.
With only three matches remaining, the Cats will take a week off before hitting the road once more for a battle at FIU (3-2, 2-1 C-USA) on April 3 at 6 p.m. ET.
