No. 23 Wildcats Drop to No. 3 Bulldogs
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team lost to No. 3 Georgia in a 4-0 decision on Friday evening, playing outside for the first time this season at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. The Wildcats move to a 12-4 record, including a 10-3 mark at home and a 4-4 mark in the Southeastern Conference.
Kentucky lost the doubles point for just the second time this season, dropping contests on courts Nos. 1 and 3. The Wildcats move to a 29-7 doubles record this season.
No. 6 Akvile Paražinskaite and Fiona Arrese lost their first doubles match of the spring, dropping to No. 4 Katarina Jokic and Ariana Arseneault in a 6-3 decision on the first court. The UK duo falls to 12-1 this season, including a 7-1 mark in the conference and a 3-1 mark against ranked foes. Moments later, Lesedi Jacobs and Anastasia Tkachenko dropped to Meg Kowalski and Lea Ma in a 6-2 decision on the third court.
Coming off her first doubles loss of the season, No. 42 Paražinskaite then fell to the No. 1 player in the nation in the singles competition. The graduate student lost to No. 1 Katarina Jokic in a 6-0, 6-0 outcome on the first court. Following that, No. 119 Carlota Molina fell to No. 45 Lea Ma in a 6-1, 6-3 outcome on the second court.
Meanwhile, Maialen Morante was battling on the sixth court to become the only UK player to win the first set on Friday evening. The sophomore took down Elena Christofi in the first set, 6-3. However, the match retired at 6-3, 1-3 after Elizabeth Stevens lost to No. 73 Morgan Coppoc in a 6-3, 6-2 decision on the fourth court to help Georgia to its fourth and final point.
The Wildcats will return home for their next contest, playing host to No. 19 Tennessee on Sunday, March 28 at noon ET for senior day at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center.
