Meinzer, Facusse Chosen for C-USA Preseason Team
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky midfielder Marcel Meinzer and goalkeeper Enrique Facusse were selected to the spring 2021 Conference USA Preseason Team on Wednesday, while the Wildcats were predicted to finish second overall by league head coaches.
The accolades follow an abbreviated fall 2020 non-conference slate in which Kentucky finished with a 5-1 record and peaked at No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches rankings, closing the stretch on a five-match winning streak.
Meinzer was a 2019 second-team All-C-USA honoree during his sophomore campaign, recording five assists and scoring the game-winning goal in a 7-1 victory over Wright State. The Herxheim, Germany, native appeared in all six matches last fall, logging one assist and seven shot attempts.
In addition to a 2019 C-USA All-Tournament Team recognition, Facusse joined Meinzer on the 2019 All-C-USA second team after two consecutive first-team appearances and Golden Glove Awards as an underclassman. The Tegucigalpa, Honduras, product recorded seven saves in three starts last fall.
The Wildcats were picked to finish behind only reigning C-USA regular season and postseason tournament champion Marshall in Wednesday’s preseason poll.
