Men’s Golf Inks Archer and Kremer for 2020

by Deb Moore

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky head men’s golf coach Brian Craig announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent for the 2020 signing class on Wednesday. Hugo Archer from Rennes, France, and Campbell Kremer from Louisville, Kentucky, have each signed to play their collegiate golf for the Wildcats.

“This class with Campbell Kremer and Hugo Archer is an absolute home run,” Craig said. “These two fine young men will be great fits in our program due to their high desire and outstanding character. They both have very accomplished résumés, but I firmly believe their best golf is in front of them. It will be my privilege to help them grow as players, students and young men while they are wearing the blue and white.”

Kremer will join fellow in-state players Cullan Brown, Jacob Cook, Allen Hamilton, Jay Kirchdorfer, Cooper Parks, Tanner Parks and Zach Norris in 2020. Archer is the first international player for the Wildcats since Max Mehles, Lukas Euler and Fadhli Soetarso wrapped up their careers in 2018-19.

Archer has reached as high as No. 277 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking according to the United States Golf Association. He’s generated 10 top-10 finishes in 18 counting events on the amateur tour.

He logged four wins in 2019. He charted a 73-65-74 scorecard at the Grand Prix De la Cote D’Opale, a 71-73-67-68 at the International Juniors of Belgium, a 71-77-72 at the Grand Prix Orleans Limere and a 71-75-74 at the Grand Prix Nimes Campagne en route to his four victories.

Archer also participated in boxing, tennis and soccer as young athlete.

“I am thrilled to have Hugo Archer join our Kentucky golf family,” Craig said. “It takes a tremendous amount of maturity and courage to leave your home country and pursue your dreams in the United States, and Hugo is definitely that type of special young man. His golf accomplishments speak for themselves.

Hugo has had the chance to step beyond junior golf and play in quality amateur golf championships in Europe. He has also proven that he cannot just compete but win at the amateur level. When you can get ranked as high as the number 277 amateur in the world, while still in high school, it is a pretty good indicator that you have some serious talent and the desire to become the best you can be in this game. I can’t wait for Hugo to get here and help us win championships. It will be my privilege to coach Hugo and help him continue to learn and grow throughout his Kentucky career.”

Continuing a strong connection to Saint Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky, Campbell Kremer will follow in the path of the likes of former high school teammates and now teammates again at the collegiate level in Hamilton and Kirchdorfer by joining the Wildcats.

Kremer has reached as high as the No. 26 overall player in the 2020 class according to the Junior Golf Scoreboard. He’s a two-time all-state selection and was a member of the 2016 Saint Xavier state championship squad. During his junior season, he generated a team-low scoring average with a 70.3 and nine straight under par rounds. As a senior he logged a 71.3 scoring average.

He qualified for the 2018 US Junior tournament and won the 73rd Junior Falls Cities Match Play Championship. He’s twice qualified for the junior PGA Championship and has five top-10 finishes on the American Junior Golf Association tour.

Kremer is a member of the Animal Conservation Club and the Gentleman’s Breakfast Club. He’s helped raise more than $17,000 for the Jennifer Lawrence Heart Center at Norton Children’s Hospital through the AJGA Leadership Links program. He is a leader on the Christian Awakening Retreat and is a member of the 2020 Saint Xavier Jamaican mission trip.

“I love having Kentucky players on our team and there is no one in this class that I wanted more than Campbell Kremer,” Craig said. “Campbell is an outstanding young man from a fabulous family that is deeply rooted in this great game in the state of Kentucky. When it comes to talent and upside, Campbell is simply off the charts.  He has proven he can go low in national competitions and, with the continued refinement of his game, I firmly believe Campbell will make a huge impact in the SEC during his career in our program. I can’t wait to see Campbell representing the University of Kentucky and I can’t wait to coach him.”
