Kentucky Women’s Soccer Falls to Vanderbilt on Sunday Afternoon
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky (6-9-3, 1-7-1 SEC) fell, 1-0 in overtime, to Vanderbilt (12-4-1, 5-3-1 SEC) on Sunday afternoon at The Bell. Raegan Kelley scored the winner for the Commodores in the 94th minute, which eliminated the Wildcats from postseason play.
UK put on one of its best performances of the season against one of the Southeastern Conference’s best but could not find the all-important winning goal. Kentucky had the only shots on goal in the game through regulation.
Freshmen center backs Valdis Björg Sigurbjörnsdóttir and Rebekka Danielsen impressed throughout proceedings, while the midfield handled possession and held strong in both defensive and attacking positions.
The Wildcats started six freshmen and played a total of nine during the match, which has been a regular occurrence for the 2019 season. Head coach Ian Carry’s side has shown steady improvement and will finish its season next week.
Senior midfielders Gina Crosetti and Foster Ignoffo played their final minutes at The Bell and were phenomenal leaders in their four years at the University of Kentucky.
