Wildcats Conclude Crooked Stick in 11th

CARMEL, Ind. – The Kentucky men’s golf team concluded the Crooked Stick Collegiate in 11th place following Tuesday’s final round. UK returns to action for its final fall tournament Oct. 26-27 at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational at the Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Alabama.
 
“We just did not have it this week,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “The main competition in golf is the course and Crooked Stick had our number this week. We will learn and get better from this event. We have a lot to sharpen up and after a short rest, we will get right back to work preparing for the Steelwood event.”
 
Senior Allen Hamilton and junior Garrett Wood led the Wildcats with a tie for 40th on the individual leaderboard. Both players shot 11-over par for the tournament.
 
Georgia captured the tournament title at 3-over par. Vanderbilt was one shot back and Northwestern and Marquette tied for third at 15-over par. The Wildcats finished in 11th at 40-over par.
 
Windy conditions and frost played a factor during Tuesday’s round. The tee times were delayed 30 minutes due to the frost and wind gusts increased to more than 25 miles per hour throughout the round.
 
Freshman Alex Goff fired the best round of the day for the Wildcats with a 2-over 74. He had a pair of birdies on the back nine and played 2-under par during his opening nine holes. He concluded the tournament tied for 51st. Sophomore Zach Norris matched Goff’s finish behind a round of 76 on Tuesday.
 
Freshman Cooper Parks ended the tournament tied for 61st with a final round of 77.
 
The Wildcats will be back in action in less than two weeks with their final tournament of the fall campaign at Steelwood. It is an event in which the Cats have appeared in twice since 2016. UK placed fourth in 2017 and was the tournament’s runner up in 2016.
