Kentucky Women’s Soccer Falls to No. 19 Florida on Sunday Afternoon

by Tommy Scott

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Kentucky (5-8-2, 0-6-0 SEC) fell, 4-2, to No. 19 Florida (9-5-0, 5-1-0 SEC) on Sunday afternoon at Dizney Stadium. Two goals in each half by four different Gators made the difference as the Wildcats couldn’t overcome a strong UF attack.

Julia Grosso got proceedings off to a great start for UK when a Rebekka Danielsen corner fell to Grosso who fired it into the top of the goal past the keeper in the 17th minute to give Kentucky an early lead over Florida.

The Gators would respond with four unanswered goals over the next 40 minutes. Jordyn Rhodes scored a second goal for the Wildcats in the 71st minute from the penalty spot after Cami Dade earned a foul in the box.

UK started eight freshmen and played 10 in total against a nationally ranked UF side. That includes the entire starting defensive back line of Caroline Trout, Rebekka Danielsen, Valdis Björg Sigurbjörnsdóttir and Hunter Koziara, as well as starting goalkeeper Steph Stull.
