Callum Irving Rated Nation's Best Goalie by NCAA Coaches
TDS’s J.R. Eskilson identified Irving as the top vote-getter in the Website’s college coaches survey, rating the best players in Division I.
Irving was named an All-American last season having kept 10 clean sheets with a 0.77 goals against average. He made 65 saves throughout the season, many of them of the spectacular and/or game-saving variety.
He is the reigning Conference USA Player of the Year, Defensive MVP and also First Team All-C-USA in addition to winning the Golden Glove Award, which went to the conference goalie with the most shutouts in league play (five).
Irving was also a Scholar All-American last year, illustrating his elite status both on the field and in the classroom.
The Vancouver, B.C., native was named to the 2014 Conference USA All-Academic Team and the 2013 Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Having started every game for the past two seasons, Irving has a 0.98 career goals-against average, which ranks third in UK history, behind Greg Raber (2001-02; 0.85) and Andy Gruenebaum (2002-05, 0.97), who recently retired after playing the better part of the last decade in Major League Soccer.
