UK Rallies During Second Round, Goff Leads Starters
HARRIS, Mich. – Kentucky utilized a 1-over par round during the second round on Sunday at the Island Resort Intercollegiate to move to within contention of a top-five finish. Redshirt freshman Alex Goff leads the starting lineup at 2-over par and a tie for 21st with 18 holes to play. UK finished the opening day at 15-over par and in seventh place.
Goff is among five Wildcats who concluded the opening day at Sage Run among the top 30 individual performers. Individuals Matt Liston and Garrett Wood earned the best collective rounds of the day for any UK players. Liston is tied for ninth at 2-under through two rounds, while Wood is tied for 18th with a combined one-over par score.
Goff, Allen Hamilton and Cooper Parks led the starting lineup in its surge on the leaderboard during the second round. Goff and Hamilton both shot even-par 72s, while Parks scored his first collegiate under-par score with a round of 71 over the second round.
UK is 10 shots back of Michigan State for fifth place. Purdue leads the field at 11-under par. East Carolina is four shots back, while Liberty is in third and five strokes off the Boilermarkers’ pace to round out the top three. The leaders on the individual leaderboard are 6-under through two rounds of play.
Goff, appearing in his first collegiate tournament, scored rounds of 74 and 72. He generated seven birdies over the first two rounds to lead the starting lineup. He is tied for 21st and in search of his first career top-20 finish in his UK debut.
Parks and Hamilton are tied for 27th. Parks was the lone starter to card an under-par round with a 1-under score during the second round. He finished the day with back-to-back birdies to head into the final round with momentum. Hamilton’s second-round score of 72 matches a career-low round for the Louisville, Kentucky, native.
Jacob Cook is tied for 50th and sophomore Zach Norris is tied for 55th. Cook opened the tournament with rounds of 77 and 75, while Norris turned in rounds of 79 and 74.
Liston leads the four players appearing in the tournament as individuals. The senior from Louisville, Kentucky, is tied for ninth overall behind a 2-under par day. He scored 71s during both of today’s rounds.
Wood is seeking his first top-20 finish as a member of the Wildcats. He concluded the day in a tie for 18th and is 1-over par for the tournament. He generated a 2-under 70 during the second round to move to within four shots of the leaders.
Redshirt freshman Jay Kirchdorfer put together a 76 and 74 to open his collegiate career. He’s tied for 41st. Freshman Jackson LaLonde is tied for 55th following rounds of 76 and 77.
Play concludes with a final 18 holes on Monday. Norris will begin the day for the starters off the No. 10 tee at 9:35 a.m. ET. UK is paired with Detroit and South Dakota State during the tournament’s final round.
