Facusse Earns PanAm Silver with Honduras
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s soccer goalkeeper Enrique Facusse claimed a Silver Medal with Honduras at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima Peru.
Facusse played as a reserve keeper on Honduras’ under-22s squad that dropped the Gold Medal match to world power Argentina. Honduras upset Mexico 4-2 on penalties in the semifinals after drawing 1-1 in regular time.
The Pan Am games serve as a warmup before the Summer Olympic Games warmup competition for nations in the Americas. Pan Ams feature competitions in most of the sports sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee on a quadrennial cycle one year before each Summer Olympics.
Soccer (association football) at the Pan Am Games is a tournament for U-22 teams with three over-age players allowed on each team.
Facusse was called into the Honduras Olympic qualifying training camp earlier this year to prepare for the upcoming qualifying tournament, which is contested among U-23 teams.
The 2019 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship will take place in October. The competition will determine which men’s under-23 national teams from the North, Central American and Caribbean region qualify for the Olympic football tournament. The tournament will provide two teams for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Facusse was named a second team All-American in 2018. The UK goalkeeper was named All-Region for the second year in a row, as well as First Team All-Conference USA. His .49 goals against average ranked fourth nationally, and his .84 save percentage ranked 12th in Division I and he led the nation in shutouts (14).
Earlier this week, Facusse was voted to the 2019 C-USA Preseason Team.
Kentucky returns eight regular starters — including All-Americans Facusse and Aimé Mabika, in addition to All-Conference selections Kalil ElMedkhar, Jason Reyes and Leon Jones — from their record-setting 2018 season. Last fall, UK won the Conference USA double, set the school record for wins, reached the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, went 5-1 against top-25 opponents and welcomed multiple 3,000-plus crowds to The Bell to name but a few accomplishments.
