Soccer Falls at Wake Forest in Final Preseason Tuneup
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Kentucky dropped its final preseason tuneup 3-0 at Wake Forest on Saturday.
The Wildcats struggled to get into the game early as Wake Forest controlled possession and created multiple chances. Returning All-American goalkeeper Callum Irving was called into action to make a 1v1 save from 10 yards on five minutes, and stopped another shot on 15 minutes before the Demon Deacons opened the scoring on 26 minutes.
Jacori Hayes scored Wake’s first two goals, netting his brace in the 37th minute to send UK into the locker room down by two at half.
Wake Forest added a third goal in the 68th minute when Jack Harrison struck a cross from Philip Parker.
Kentucky will open the 2015 regular season against Valparaiso at the Bell Soccer Complex at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The UK women’s soccer team will play the first half of a doubleheader at 5 p.m.
