UK Cross Country Set for Season-Opening Dual Meet vs. EKU Tuesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky cross country season begins Tuesday at Masterson Station Park as the Wildcats will host Eastern Kentucky University beginning at 6 p.m.
The women’s 4,000-meter race will begin first, with the men’s race – also 4k – scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
Kentucky enters the season looking to take steps forward from last year. The men’s team is picked by league coaches to finish fifth in the Southeastern Conference this year, while the women’s squad is predicted to place seventh.
Additionally, the UK men are ranked eighth in the Southeast Region, and the women’s team is ranked 10th.
EKU’s men’s team is ranked fourth in the southeast and the women’s team is ranked seventh.
Last season the UK men’s team placed fifth, and the women’s team placed eighth at the SEC Championships. The men’s team placed ninth and the women’s squad finished 12th at the NCAA Southeast Regional.
EKU’s men’s cross country team is ranked No. 22 by FloTrack. The Colonels placed 23rd at last year’s NCAA Championships and have reached the NCAA Championships four years in a row.
