STILLWATER, Okla. – Kentucky’s cross country teams will hit the road for the first time this season to compete at Oklahoma State’s Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday.
Saturday’s race will be the 79th edition of the Cowboy Jamboree, making it among the oldest cross country races in the nation.
The women’s 5,000-meter race will begin at 9 a.m. ET, and the men’s 8k is slated to start at 9:35 a.m.
Thirty-one teams made up of approximately 500 athletes are scheduled to traverse the OSU cross country course.
Kentucky will be competing for the first time since Jacob Thomson and Kendall Muhammad swept the Southeastern Conference Athletes of the Week awards earlier this month.
Thomson turned in a solid run to place second overall, in an 8K time of 24:19.20, at the Bluegrass Invitational. That time remains the fastest 8K in the SEC this season. Muhammad ran 24:49.10 at the Bluegrass Invitational, which remains the fastest 8k by a SEC freshman this year.
Regarding Kentucky’s women’s team, Katy Kunc has emerged as a leader, having started the 2015 cross country season strong. She won each of her first two meets this campaign. Kunc led wire to wire to win the Bluegrass Invitational two weeks ago, a fortnight after winning the season-opening Kentucky Twilight.
