UKTF Wins 18 Events to Begin Outdoor Season at UTSA Invitational
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Kentucky track and field athletes won 17 of a possible 29 events at the outdoor season-opening UTSA Invitational last weekend at the Park West Athletics Complex.
Chloe Abbott made her outdoor 400-meter dash season debut with a winning time of 51.59, which was .02 off the PB she ran in the NCAA East Preliminary Championships last year while at Purdue en route to a fourth-place finish in the NCAA final. She moved to No. 2 on the UK all-time performers’ list behind only Sydney McLaughlin.
Abbott won the 200m as well.
Rahman Minor moved to No. 6 on the UK outdoor all-time list with a high-jump winning clearance at 7’1.5″/2.17m.
Charles Lenford won the men’s hammer throw and shot put. He tossed a personal best in the men’s hammer throw 192’0″/58.53m to move to No. 6 on the UK all-time list. Lenford Jr. had a solid outdoor-season opening mark of 62’4.5″/19.01m to win the shot put.
Nicole Fautsch swept the women’s shot put and discus. She won the shot put on Friday with a mark at 51’8.25″/ 15.75m – a 1’2.5″ outdoor PB that moved her to No. 6 on the UK outdoor all-time list.
On Saturday, Fautsch claimed the discus with a 1’3″ PB 163’7″/49.87m.
Ben Young won the men’s 5k on Friday with a distance-debut time of 14:38.01. Brennan Fields won in a 26.59-second PB 14:39.05. Tanner Dowdy ran 14:57.64, a 20.36 PB, and Cole Dowdy ran 15:04.18, a 17.8 PB.
Matt Peare won the men’s pole vault clearing 16’6.75″/5.05m.
Emily Akin won the women’s 800m in 2:14.96.
Carly Hinkle won the women’s high jump clearing 5’6″/1.68m.
Latavia Coombs won the women’s triple jump with a mark at 41’8.75″/12.72m (+3.5).
Dwight St. Hillaire won the men’s 400m with a time of 47.30.
UK’s men’s 4x100m relay won with a time of 40.01. UK’s men’s 4x400m relay won in 3:13.1.
UK’s women’s 4x100m relay of Celera Barnes, Abby Steiner, Faith Ross and Kianna Gray ran 44.45 to win. UK’s women’s 4x400m relay won in 3:45.41.
Carly Hinkle won the women’s high jump with a clearance at 5’6″/1.68m.
Perri Bockrath, Rachel Boice and Mallory Liggett went 1-2-3 in the women’s 2k steeplechase. Matthew Thomas and Dylan Allen went 2-3 in the men’s 2k steeplechase.
Molly Leppelmeier took second place in the women’s hammer throw with a massive PB mark of 195’9″/ 59.66m, starting her outdoor season with a performance that put her at No. 3 on UK all-time list.
Kelli Walsh, Kaitlin Lacy, Caitlin Shepard and Sarah Michels went 2-3-4-5 in the women’s 5k.
Kentucky competed alongside hosts UTSA, as well as Purdue, Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV.
