Kentucky to Begin 2018-19 at Hoosier Open Friday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky track and field season will get under way on Friday at the Hoosier Open inside Gladstein Field House on the Indiana University Campus.
The Wildcats will test their fall training before breaking for the winter holidays.
Friday’s meet will be UK’s first track competition under Head Coach Lonnie Greene’s direction.
The Wildcats have 70 entries in Friday’s meet, which will provide a benchmark to test against when the athletes return to campus in early January after final exams and the holidays.
The Wildcats will open up in 2019 at the Jim Green Invitational Jan. 11-12 inside Nutter Field House, which will take the place of the Kentucky Invitational, as the Wildcats’ home opener.
UK’s other home indoor meet will be the McCravy Memorial Feb. 1-2.
The postseason will begin at the SEC Indoor Championships Feb. 22-23 hosted by Arkansas at the Tyson Indoor facility. The NCAA Indoor Championships will be March 8-9 in Birmingham, Alabama.
At the 2018 SEC Indoor Championships, the UK men’s team placed sixth with 45 points, and the women’s team was third with 74.
At the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships, the UK men’s team finished 17th with 12 points, and the Wildcats women’s team placed third with 34.
