David Keevins and Will Bushamuka Inducted Into UK Tennis Hall of Fame
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky tennis legends David Keevins and Will Bushamuka have been inducted into the UK Tennis Hall of Fame.
Keevins – a four year letterman for the Wildcats – is one of just 15 players for UK that finished his career with 100 or more wins, checking in with 106. As a senior, Keevins helped lead UK to its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 1987. UK advanced to the Round of 16 before falling to nationally ranked Michigan. Keevins spent much time in the national ranking and reached as high as No. 34 in the country.
“David was a key contributor to UK becoming a national program,” former head coach Dennis Emery said. “He went from unheralded recruit to a top-50 national player who was a solid winner everywhere in the lineup over his four year career.”
Will Bushamuka was a four year letterwinner for UK and one of the most decorated athletes in UK Tennis history. Bushamuka appeared on the All-SEC First Team three times in his career and was named a 2017 All-American as a junior after finishing at No. 14 in the ITA rankings. Bushamuka had four top-10 wins during his junior season, including beating the No. 4 player in the nation. Many of his wins came on the top court, as he recorded 12 No. 1 wins as a sophomore and 11 as a junior. Overall, Bushamuka finished with 80 wins at UK, and three of his four years with the Wildcats he earned 20 or more wins during the fall and spring seasons.
Bushamuka qualified for the NCAA Singles Tournament during his sophomore, junior and senior season and also helped UK qualify for the NCAA Tournament in those seasons as well. Bushamuka helped UK earn two NCAA Tournament wins, including a win over No. 35 Virginia Tech in 2018.
