No. 20 Kentucky Falls to No. 9 Georgia
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Despite very competitive singles play, the No. 20 Kentucky women’s tennis dropped a 4-0 decision to ninth-ranked Georgia at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Complex on Friday evening. The Wildcats fall to 11-6 overall, including a 3-4 mark in Southeastern Conference play. The Bulldogs move to 10-3, 5-1 SEC.
The Wildcats fell behind early as Georgia claimed the doubles point with 6-1 wins on courts one and three.
Kentucky fought back hard in singles play, with most of the first sets played extremely close. In four of six first sets, it would require winning seven games to take the set, but the Wildcats could not quite overcome to challenge.
Georgia took a two-point lead as sophomore Diana Tkachenko was defeated in straight sets on court four, and extended its lead to three as freshman Brianna Tulloch fell 7-5, 6-2 in No. 6 singles.
The Bulldogs sealed their victory as sixth-ranked Katarina Jokic defeated UK senior Emily Fanning, 7-5, 6-2 on court one. It was Fanning’s first time playing on the No. 1 court in her career.
The Wildcats will be back in action at home on Sunday, welcoming No. 37 Tennessee to the Boone Tennis Complex. First serve is set for noon ET.
