No. 21 Kentucky Falls to No. 12 Florida, 4-0
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 21 Kentucky (10-5, 3-1 SEC) men’s tennis dropped its first Southeastern Conference match of the year as UK fell to Florida (9-6, 4-1 SEC) on Friday evening at the Albert Ring Tennis Complex.
UK will return home on Sunday to take on South Carolina. First serve at the Boone Tennis Center is set for 1 p.m.
Florida took home the doubles point after winning on court No. 1 and No. 2. The duo Ryo Matsumura and Enzo Wallart and the duo of Cesar Bourgois and Gus Benson each lost 6-3 to hand UF the doubles point. Will Bushamuka and Austin Hussey were locked in a 5-5 battle when time was called.
The Gators went up 2-0 when Austin Hussey fell to Chase Perez-Blanco, 6-4, 6-1. Hussey is now 6-4 this season. UF pushed its lead to 3-0 when Kento Yamada, against his first ranked opponent of the year, lost 6-3, 6-2 to No. 101 Andres Andrade.
Florida clinched the match when No. 93 Oliver Crawford beat Enzo Wallart, 6-2, 6-3.
Three singles matches were called when play was called. No. 49 Ryo Matsumura was at 3-6, 6-1, 1-3 against No. 7 Alfredo Perez, Will Bushamuka was down 7-6, 5-2, to No. 6 Johannes Ingildsen and Trey Yates we up over No. 68 Duarte Vale, 6-2, 2-6, 5-3.
