UKTF Begins Outdoor Season at UCF Black and Gold Challenge
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Kentucky track and field program will begin the outdoor season this weekend at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge.
The Wildcats completed the indoor season last weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships with the women’s team earning its best finish indoors in history, third place, while the UK men’s team was 17th in the team standings.
For the most part the Wildcats who competed at NCAAs last weekend, will not be in action this week in Orlando. With the UK campus on spring break this week, the team has taken part in some fun off-track activities in the Magic City, while also getting in important warm-weather training.
Specialists in outdoor-only events, specifically long throwers and steeplechasers will be looking forward to the start of the outdoor season, and a bunch of Wildcats will make that start this weekend.
Kentucky will begin building up to the outdoor season, which begins with the Southeastern Conference Championships in May, and concludes at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in early June.
The two-day meet will feature 22 schools, 10 from Florida including Florida in addition to SEC program South Carolina.
Friday’s field events begin the meet Friday with the javelin at 11 a.m. ET, followed by pole vault at noon and hammer throw and triple jump at 1 p.m.
On the track, the invitational 1,500 will start at 6:20 p.m., and the first day of action will conclude with the 5000m at 7:45 p.m.
Saturday’s events begin at 10 a.m. with the discus. The 4×100 relay will open the Saturday running events at 11 a.m.
