Euler Earns Career-Best Finish in Final Fall Event
Final Results
LOXLEY, Ala. – Junior Lukas Euler remained under par for the week with a 72 on the final day of play at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational en route to a career-best finish of second place to lead the Kentucky men’s golf team in its final fall event of the 2017-18 season.
Euler was one of just six players to shoot under par scores for the tournament as he led the Wildcats to a fourth-place finish. Alabama took home the team title by one shot over Kennesaw State. South Alabama edged the Wildcats by two strokes for third-place honors.
“A little disappointing finish today, but we still had a superb fall campaign,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “This Bermuda grass experience at Steelwood Country Club will help us in the long run. I love this team and believe our best golf is still in front of us. I firmly believe that.”
Euler’s finish is the best of his career after topping a tie for third at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate earlier this fall. He shot an even par, 72, over the final 18 holes behind a 1-under back nine to lead the way for the Cats.
“I am also so proud of Lukas Euler for his terrific play this week and the fantastic player he is becoming,” Craig said. “It is great to see him reaping the benefits of his diligent work.”
Kentucky turned in arguably its best fall performance in the Craig era. UK won its first three events of the season and broke records in the process. The Cats will return to the course in mid-February in Puerto Rico.
“Now it’s time to take a break and focus on our schoolwork and conditioning,” Craig said. “I can’t wait for the spring season to start.”

Euler began his second-place clinching round by paring the first two holes of the day. He then birdied the par-four third for the second time in three rounds. He shook off three bogeys by birdying the par-five ninth to head into the turn with momentum. A birdie on the par-four 11th would get him back to even par. He would play even the rest of the way to preserve an under-par score for the tournament.
He concludes his fall campaign with two top-five finishes and four overall top-20 finishes. The Dieburg, Germany, native will also finish the 12 fall rounds with eight par-or-better rounds which is tops on the team.
