MADISON, Wis. – The Kentucky women’s team was 26th, and the men’s team was 25th at the Wisconsin Invitational on Friday.
Jacob Thomson led the way for the Kentucky men’s team, placing 42nd in 24:16.80.
Brennan Fields was Kentucky’s No. 2 finisher placing 77th overall in 24:33.30. Daniel Southard placed 141st in 24:59.90, Matthew Thomas was 194th in 25:29.70 and Kendall Muhammad was 200th in 25:38.00.
Katy Kunc placed 55th in her first 6k of the year running 20:49.30.
Avery Bussjager was UK’s No. 2 finisher crossing the line in 21:02.60 for 83rd overall, Michelle McKinney was 109th in 21:24.60, Caitlin Shepard placed 152nd in 21:46.10 and Sarah Crawford rounded out UK’s top-5 with a time of 22:34.30.
Stanford won the men’s team race with 60 points.
New Mexico won the women’s team competition on 87 points.
Cross country refresher
Points are scored in cross country corresponding to finishing place. The place of each of the top five finishers on each team are added up and the team with the lowest total wins. Placers outside a team’s top five cannot score so finishers on other teams that might finish behind a team’s No. 6 or No. 7 finisher can get a point total fewer than their overall place in the race.
