Kentucky men’s soccer sweeps Conference USA Players of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s soccer team swept the Conference USA Player of the Week awards as goalkeeper Enrique Facusse was named Defensive Player of the Week for the second Monday in a row and Mikkel Pedersen earned Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Pedersen scored a goal in each game last week including the game winner in the 86th minute v University of Alabama-Birmingham as Kentucky picked up three points to open Conference USA play. Pedersen also gave Kentucky a 2-1 first half lead at Louisville. With two goals, Pedersen is tied for first with McKelvey and Stojkovic for most goals on the team.
Facusse helped UK to a win and a top-25 road draw last week, keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 win v UAB. Facusse made four saves in each game this week.
He made three big saves late v UAB to keep UK’s 1-0 lead. The best save of the night was a diving save on a free kick from 23 yards out in the penultimate minute of the 90.
Facusse recorded his second clean sheet from as many matches at home, his third overall and improved his goals-against average to 0.55.
