Mehles Shines on Day Two of Wolf Run
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. – Freshman Max Mehles carded a squad-low 1-under, 70, on the second day of play at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate on Saturday. Mehles’ round enabled him to rise on the leaderboard by 46 slots, easily the biggest jump of the day for any golfer in the field. Mehles, playing as an individual in his first collegiate event, surged into a tie for 35th.
Kentucky sits in third place following a 16-over par day. UK is a mere stroke back of Central Florida and Miami (OH) for the lead. Junior Lukas Euler paces the starting five and is tied for seventh through 36 holes of action at 3-over for the tournament.
Player Roundup
Mehles played brilliant golf during his second round as a collegian. A birdie on the No. 3 got his day started. He finished the front nine at even par, before birding the final two holes of the day to offset a bogey on the 15th for a 1-under round. He was 13 strokes better during his second round of play compared to his day one total.
Euler shot a 4-over, 75, during the second round. He sits in a tie for seventh to lead the UK starters. Chip McDaniel is tied for 10th and looking for his 20th career top-20 finish. He fired a 3-over, 74, during the second round.
Sophomore Matt Liston made a push into the top 15 following a 2-over, 73. Liston is tied for 14th after birding three of his final nine holes during Saturday’s round.
Senior Evan Cox, playing as an individual, also made a run to move into a tie for 17th after a 2-over round. Cox’s highlight was a birdie on the par-five 17th.
Senior Cooper Musselman is tied for 20th, while junior Fred Allen Meyer sits in a tie for 27th. UK is looking to have each one of its starters finish among the top 25 individual players for the second-consecutive season. Freshman Jacob Cook, playing in his first collegiate event, is tied for 77th.
