FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  – Sha’Keela Saunders’ Long Jump Bronze Medal headlined night one of the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships on Friday at Arkansas’ Tyson Indoor Track Center.

Saunders launched to an indoor personal best mark 21-feet, 7 inches/6.59 meters on her fifth attempt to tally six points for the Wildcats. 

Alabama junior Quanesha Burks won with a nation-leading mark of 22’1.75”/6.75m. Chanice Porter placed second at 21’9.5”/6.64m. The top five jumpers all reached marks better than 21 feet.

The team scores after day one
Through five of 17 events in the men’s team race, Kentucky is in sixth place with 14 points. 

Through four of 17 events in the women’s team race Kentucky is tied for seventh with Mississippi State on 11 points.

Men’s Scorers on Friday
Xaivier McAllister placed fifth in the high jump with a clearance at 6’9.5”/2.07m. Justin Kretchmer was eighth, clearing 6’7.5”/2.02m. McAllister scored four points, and Kretchmer earned a half of a point as he tied with Tennessee’s Wesley Edwards for eighth.
Jacob Thomson ran 8:15.86 to take fifth in the 3k. He earned four points. 
Fred Dorsey placed sixth in the men’s long jump with a mark of 24’5.75”/7.46m. He earned three points.
Nikolas Huffman placed sixth in the shot put, with a heave of 58’7.25”/17.86m to earn three points.
Women’s Scorers on Friday
Destiny Carter had a solid evening, placing seventh in the long jump in 20’3.75”/6.19m to earn three points. She advanced to the 200m final, as well.
Beckie Famurewa placed seventh in the shot put, with a throw of 50’11.5”/15.53m to add two points to the Wildcats’ cause. 
Heptathlon Update
Cameron Short used personal bests in the long jump, shot put and high jump to score 3259 points through four events of the heptathlon. He sits in third place after day one.  
Timothy Duckworth, one of the nation’s top heptathletes entering the meet, incurred an injury during the long jump and did not continue. 
Friday Qualifiers
Javianne Oliver ran 7.29, .01 off her PR in the prelims of the 60m. She had the fifth fastest qualifying time.
Two Wildcats – Jasmine Quinn and Jacklyn Howell — made the 60m hurdles final. Quinn, a freshman, ran a personal best 8.22 for the fifth fastest qualifying time. Howell ran 8.29, the eighth fastest time from the prelims.
Nick Anderson advanced to the 60m hurdles final with a qualifying time of 7.88.
Lou Styles ran 4:06.13, the third fastest qualifying time to advance to Saturday’s mile final. 
Ariah Graham cruised in her heat and had the second fastest 800m qualifying time overall: 2:07.78.
Destiny Carter ran a season-best 200m time of 23:39 to make the final with the seventh fastest qualifying place.
Saturday Primer
Saturday’s action will begin with the heptathlon 60m hurdles at noon ET. The men’s weight throw will be the first open field event to start, at 2 p.m. ET.The first open final – the 60m hurdles will start at 4 p.m. 
The SEC Indoor Championships will be streamed live on SEC Network + Saturday from 3:55-8:30 p.m. The meet will also air as part of a two-hour show on ESPN on Sunday at 6 p.m. CT. The broadcast talent includes Dwight Stones, Larry Rawson and SportsCenter’s John Anderson. 
The Nation’s Best Conference Meet
A total of 13 SEC men’s and women’s track and field teams are ranked among the nation’s top-25 teams, according to the latest national rankings announced Monday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The UK women’s team is ranked No. 15.
The Precedent
Last season as SEC Indoor Championships hosts, the UK women’s track and field team earned a fourth-place finish.
The fourth-place result was the second-highest finish and point total in program history. UK finished fourth overall with 76 points, which was the second highest score ever by a UK women’s team, bettering the 2014 fourth-place total by 4 points.  Kentucky’s best-ever women’s finish was third with 92 points in 1989.
A year ago, the UK men’s team finished 12th with 22 points.
