Kentucky Softball Announces Signing of Katie Simpson

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Softball team announced Tuesday that Katie Simpson has transferred to UK and will be eligible for two remaining seasons in 2027 and 2028. Simpson comes to Kentucky from Seminole State College in Oklahoma.

An outfielder from Columbus, Kansas, Simpson was named a NJCAA Division I First Team All-American in 2026 as she hit .450 on the season with 17 home runs, nine doubles seven triples and a .991 fielding percentage. Simpson was also the Region 2 Player of the Year, a Gold Glove recipient and First Team All-Region in 2025.

“We’re excited to add Katie out of the transfer portal to be a Wildcat!” Rachel Lawson said, who enters her 20th season as the Kentucky Softball head coach. “She is an elite triple threat who brings strong energy to our team and a great sense of the game of softball. Katie is a tremendous fielder and will add a significant amount of versatility to our lineup.”

Simpson helped lead Seminole State (OK) to a 51-6 overall record in 2026 and a 23-1 conference record. Seminole State advanced to the 2026 NJCCA D1 Women’s College World Series.
