Kate Lanier Named to SEC Community Service Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday, April 19, that Kentucky women’s tennis senior Kate Lanier has been named to the 2016 Community Service Team.  The SEC highlighted the team in a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition.

A 2016 inductee to the Frank G. Ham Society of Character, Lanier has logged more than 100 hours of community service this past year, starting with a summer trip to Ethiopia.  She has spent multiple days working with Cats Cultivating Character, and has also helped out with Wiltmore Elementary School.  Over the winter holiday, Lanier participated in Salvation Army bell ringing and was a volunteer for Breakfast with Santa.  Other volunteer activities during her time at UK include serving food to the homeless at Hope Center and participating in the UK Hospital Blanket Project.

The Wildcats will begin the postseason on Thursday, heading to Baton Rouge, La., for the 2016 SEC Tournament.  Kentucky was tabbed as the No. 9 seed in the tournament, and will face No. 8 seed and host team LSU Thursday at 3 p.m. CT.
