No. 5 Florida Sweeps Kentucky With 9-0 Sunday Win

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 5 Florida Gators completed the sweep of Kentucky with a 9-0 win in six innings Sunday afternoon.

The Gators scored five runs in the first, added a run in the third and then closed out the win with a two-out, full-count, three-run home off the bat of Jocelyn Erickson to put UF up by nine.

Kentucky will next play at Houston on Wednesday night as it begins a four-game Texas swing prior to making its way to College Station for next weekend’s SEC series with No. 15 Texas A&M at Davis Diamond.

Florida finishes the weekend with a 27-1 overall record and sit 6-0 in SEC play. Kentucky is now 19-9 and 1-5 in the SEC

Florida used five hits including a two-RBI double by Taylor Thomas to take a 5-0 lead in the top of the first before the Wildcats were able to pick up the bats. UF 5, UK 0

An RBI single into left field by Abby Wesolowski made things into a six-run lead for UF in the top of the third. UF 6, UK 0

In the top of the sixth, with runners on second and third and two outs, Jocelyn Erickson hit her third home run of the series to right center to induce the run rule. FINAL – Florida 9, Kentucky 0

Sarah Haendiges was Kentucky’s key player, throwing 5.2 innings in relief with three strikeouts.

Key Moment

Jocelyn Erickson’s home run was the key moment in the top of the sixth with the Wildcats only sitting one pitch from getting out of the jam.

28-2. Florida outscored Kentucky 28-2 on the weekend series.

Freshman Hailey Nutter started the game and went 0.1 innings with five runs on four hits. Haendiges then threw the rest of the game.
