Big Blue Preview: No. 18/19 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays Host to Texas A&M on Thursday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 18/19 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program (18-7, 5-6 Southeastern Conference) will play host to Texas A&M (9-10, 2-8 SEC) in Historic Memorial Coliseum on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. ET.

There will be a jersey rally towel giveaway, while supplies last, at all entrances to the arena.

Doors open to fans one hour prior to tip.

Fans can still purchase single-game tickets to the Kentucky-Texas A&M game and all three of the program’s remaining home games this season. To shop single-game tickets, click here, and for a full list of the program’s promotional lineup, click here.

Darren Headrick will have the Kentucky-Texas A&M radio call for UK Sports Network on 630 AM WLAP in Lexington and on 790 AM WKRD in Louisville. It also will be carried on SiriusXM channel 145 and on the SiriusXM App.

Big Blue Nation also can watch the game on SEC Network, with Carolyn Peck and Tiffany Greene on the call.

UK Athletics recommends eight parking locations for fans attending games this season, including two parking locations with shuttle transportation (The Cornerstone Garage, High Street Lot). The shuttle at those parking locations starts 90 minutes prior to tip-off and breaks at the end of the first quarter. It resumes at the start of the third quarter and runs one hour postgame.

When Kentucky faces Texas A&M on Thursday, it’ll be its only unranked opponent in a five-game stretch that began with No. 7/8 Vanderbilt last Thursday and spans through its second meeting with the Commodores on Feb. 22.

The Wildcats are in search of their first win since knocking off the Razorbacks on Feb. 1. The Cats have lost five of their last six games while trying to get their team back to fully healthy.

Despite injuries, Kentucky took No. 7/8 Vanderbilt down to the wire last Thursday, while also outrebounding VU by 18 and outshooting VU from the field (56.4%-44.8%). Moreover, Kentucky held No. 4/4 Texas to a one-possession game on the road on Monday.

UK is still neck-and-neck with some of the best talent in the country.

UK is third in the nation in blocks per game (6.8), 11th in assists-turnover ratio (1.4), 13th in fewest turnovers (12.4), 20th in field-goal percentage defense (36.3), 21st in three-point field goals made (8.8), 22nd in scoring margin (17.9) and 24th in rebound margin (+8.4).

Moreover, Tonie Morgan remains first and second in the nation, respectively, in assists (211) and assists per game (8.4) and 11th in the nation in assist-turnover ratio (2.54). Clara Strack is fifth and seventh in the nation, respectively, in blocks (66) and blocks per game (2.64) and 16th in the nation in rebounds per game (10.5).

Asia Boone and Amelia Hassett also are putting up the second- and fourth-most 3s in the SEC, respectively, with 69 and 65.

In fact, Kentucky is one of just two teams in the country with at least two players with at least 65 3-pointers, with the other team being Richmond in the Atlantic 10.

Thursday will mark the 17th all-time meeting between Kentucky and Texas A&M.

UK trails the all-time meetings with TAMU, 11-5, in a series that began in 2013. Kentucky also trails Texas A&M in Lexington, 5-2.

The Wildcats have lost the last five straight meetings. The Cats last defeated the Aggs in a 76-54 outcome on Jan. 16, 2020, at home.
