Damerau, Harris Make WGCA All-American Scholars Team
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s golfers Cylia Damerau and Sarah Harris have been named to the 2014-15 Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars Team.
A total of 758 women’s collegiate golfers from Divisions I, II and II were recognized with the prestigious honor. With a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50, the criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics.
Harris, who majors in integrated strategic communications, is making her third appearance on the WGCA All-American Scholars Team. She’s a three-time member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, and she’s appeared on the UK Athletics Directors Honor Roll in six straight semesters. In the spring she was named to the SEC Community Service Team for superior community service.
A native of Hermitage, Tenn., Harris just completed her junior season at Kentucky where she ranked third with a scoring average of 75.96. She posted three top-30 finishes during the 2014-15 season, including a 14th-place showing at the Bryan National Collegiate in the spring. Harris recorded four even- or under-par rounds on the season.
Damerau was named to the WGCA All-American Scholars Team for the first time in her career after pulling a double major in communications and psychology. The Cham, Switzerland native has made the SEC Academic Honor Roll in each of the last two seasons.
In 2014-15, Damerau ranked second on the team with a season scoring average of 75.83. With four even- or under-par rounds, Damerau posted three top-30 finishes this past season. Her season-low 54-hole score of 218 (75-73-70) helped her to a season-best 12th-place finish at the SEC Championship.
As a team, the Wildcats posted a 3.229 GPA during the spring while advancing to a school-record fifth straight NCAA regional berth. UK also had a score of 995 in the latest Academic Progress Rate report released by the NCAA in May.
