LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky swimming program had 12 individuals represent the Wildcats and their home countries at the World Aquatics World Cup in Carmel, Ind. this past weekend. They walked away with a third-place finish from Carson Hick and four new Bolivian national records from Esteban Nunez Del Prado.
The international swimming scene is not new to junior Hick, who was named to the USA Swimming National Team just recently. Over the past year, his distance times have steadily improved, making him a force to be reckoned with at every level, although just 20 years old. He had a huge weekend, finishing third in the mile (14:55.00) alongside distance teammate senior Levi Sandidge, who finished fifth (14:58.40) in the same race.
It was also the sophomore and 2024 Paris Olympian, Nunez Del Prado, with a huge weekend for his home country of Bolivia. Going a perfect four for four, he set new Bolivian national records in the 100 butterfly (52.82), 100 IM (54.73), 200 IM (2:01.38), and 200 breaststroke (2:16.39).
Hick, Sandidge, Nunez Del Prado, and the rest of the Wildcats that traveled to the World Cup will use this momentum as fuel for their first collegiate meet of the season at the Lancaster Aquatic Center against Indiana on Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. ET.
