The 24th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s tennis team upset No. 16 Notre Dame 5-4 on Saturday.
The Wildcats (10-5, 4-5 SEC) split the singles matches with Notre Dame, but won two doubles matches to secure the victory. UK’s Massoumeh Emami played at No. 1 singles for the first time this season, coming back to beat Jennifer Hall 3-6, 7-5, 7-6. UK’s team of Emami and Kelly Brown, ranked No. 24 in the country, defeated the 20th-ranked team of Tiffany Gates and Jennifer Hall 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles match.
The loss drops the Fighting Irish to 12-6 on the season. UK next travels to Louisville on Sunday.
