The University of Kentucky gymnastics team held off George Washington andNorth Carolina State en route to its first two wins of the season Fridaynight at Memorial Coliseum. Kentucky tallied an impressive 193.800 mark totake first place. UK Junior Krissy Hoeferlin took top honors in theall-around competition with a score of 39.225.
Kentucky (2-2, 0-2) finished first in vault, uneven bars and floorexercise competitions. Sophomore Beth Coleman posted a career high 9.750 onuneven bars for the Kats. Junior Mila Chitwood won the floor exercisecompetition with a 9.900.
“Just like last week, I am pleased with the progress we are making,” CoachLeah Little said. “Going into the season, we decided it would be best tomake a slow start so that we would be better closer to tournament time. Wehave improved our scores consistently since the beginning and I know we canstill improve.”
North Carolina State edged out George Washington 191.750 to 191.700. N.C.State finished first in balance beam competition. The Wolfpack were led bysophomore Amy Langendor who finished with an all-around score of 39.025.
The GymKats are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 6, when they head to theGoverner’s Cup in Charleston, W.V. The meet, which is hosted by WestVirginia, will showcase Ohio State, Rutgers, West Virginia and Kentucky.
