AUBURN, Ala.-After a 20-hour rain delay, the 20th-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team (16-11, 4-8) fell to host Auburn, 4-0, Friday in the first round of the SEC Men’s Championships.
The singles matches were played before the doubles due to the rain delay. Once the match was clinched with four wins, play was stopped. Kentucky lost at number one, two, three and at five singles.
“Auburn played great,” Coach Dennis Emery said. “They have lots of seniors that came to play. (Auburn’s Lee) Pearson dominated (UK’s Cedric) Kauffmann and I feel that Cedric is one of the best players in the country.”
Kentucky has now lost both matches to Auburn (12-8, 4-7) this season. The Tigers, ranked 21st, advanced to a second-round match against top-ranked LSU tentatively scheduled for later on Friday.
