ATHENS, Ga. and LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Kentucky men?s tennis team split five players between two tournaments this weekend with four players notching at least one singles victory. Competing at the Southern Collegiate Championships were UK Swedish sensations, Gustav Pousette and Johan Grunditz. Participating in the Louisville invitational were freshmen Dalibor Mihajlovic and Elliot Datlow along with sophomore Claude Grady.

Both Grunditz and Pousette were ousted in the second round of the singles competition on Thursday. Grunditz made the sound round of singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win over the Citadel?s Ben Fortune while Pousette earned a bye in the first round. As a doubles team, Pousette/Grunditz beat Ingham/Mooney of Florida State, 8-5, in opening round doubles action before falling to Reddy/Villaroel of Charleston Southern in round two, 9-7.

The Cats fared better in Louisville as Mihajlovic and Datlow made it to the quarterfinals of their singles flight before being defeated. Mihajlovic beat Mark Pellerin (MTSU) and Ari Widlanski (Indiana) before losing to Louisville?s Hazuan Hizan. Datlow had a bye in the first round and then beat Jeremy Cagle of Tennessee-Martin. Datlow was then ousted by Dipesh Rao of Toledo.

Grady won his first round match against Morehead State?s Santiago Sahagun before dropping out in the second round to Cody Conley of Louisville. In doubles action, Grady/Mihajlovic made it to the quarterfinals before Conley/Carvalho of Louisville beat them 8-5.

The next action for the Wildcats will be in Austin, Texas, Oct. 12-18, in the second leg of the ITA Grand Slam, the ITA All-American Championships. UK?s Carlos Drada, Johan Hesoun and Edo Bawono already competed in the Grand Slam?s first leg, the T. Rowe Price/ITA National Collegiate Clay Court Championships, Sept. 21-26 in Baltimore.
