LEXINGTON, Ky. – Wajda Named SEC Player of the Week: Sophomore free safetyAnthony Wajda has been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Wajda accounted for two interceptions, a pass breakup, and a team-higheight tackles in UK’s 31-5 win over Louisiana State on Saturday.
Wajda’s first interception and 38-yard return set up a Kentuckytouchdown. His second pickoff, on the UK two-yard line, ended an LSUscoring threat. His pass breakup was made on the goal line, snuffingout a potential LSU touchdown.
For the season, Wajda has 43 tackles, leads the team ininterceptions with four, and also has two pass breakups, a fumblerecovery, and a tackle for loss.
Wajda is the first UK player to win the SEC Defensive Player ofthe Week Award since linebacker Mike Schellenberger in 1996.
UK Junior Varsity Plays Host to Georgetown on Monday: TheUniversity of Kentucky junior varsity football team returns to actionagainst the Georgetown JV Monday at 5 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium. Itis the last UK JV home game of the season. Admission is free.
The UK JV, coached by Sonny Dykes and Rob Manchester, is 3-0 onthe season. The UK and Georgetown junior varsity teams have met oncethis season already. On Sept. 23 in Georgetown, the UK JV won 35-28.
