TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The University of Kentucky rifle team notched a strong 6058-5786 victory over Rose Hulman on Saturday, Feb. 5 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Kentucky was led by freshman Crystal Hamilton, who won the air rifle competition with a 388. Junior Matt Newburn continued to improve upon his smallbore standings, as he finished first in the competition with an 1154.
The Cats posted a 4547 in smallbore, while tallying a 1511 in the air rifle portion of competition. Hamilton took second-place honors in the smallbore with an 1145, while junior Taryn Lewis finished second in the air rifle with a 385.
“The team really worked hard today,” Coach Harry Mullins said. “I feel that they worked through some of their problems and are finding their mistakes faster. This will help them in the future not to give up as many points.”
UK returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 12, when it participates in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Murray, Ky.
