Kentucky Hosts Midweek Fixture with Undefeated SEMO

Kentucky Hosts Midweek Fixture with Undefeated SEMO

Match Notes (PDF)

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a season-best offensive
output on Sunday night against Murray State in a 5-0 win, the Kentucky women’s
soccer team will play host to the undefeated Southeast Missouri State RedHawks
in a rare Wednesday night fixture at the Bell Soccer Complex in Lexington. The
match is slated for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff live on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and
the WatchESPN app.

The Wildcats scored five goals on Sunday vs.
MSU, with four different goal scorers in the match – which were both season
highs. The Wildcats are now beginning to hit their stride both offensively and defensively,
as Kentucky held the nation’s leading offense, No. 5/1 Florida, to just two
goals in over 100 minutes of soccer on Thursday night, dropping a tough double
overtime decision to the Gators.

Freshman goalkeeper Evangeline Soucie has been
nothing short of spectacular in her recent run of form. The Milford, N.J.,
native was recently named to the TopDrawer Soccer Best XI, outlining the best
11 players of the week after her career-best 11-save performance against
Florida on Thursday and a shutout on Sunday – her second straight Sunday
shutout.

Mexican National Team member Tanya Samarzich
has had the hot boot lately, scoring all five of her goals in the last four
matches, including two multi-goal matches – becoming the first player since
Arin Gilliland in 2013 to have two multi-goal matches in the same season.
Samarzich leads the Wildcats in scoring with five goals and 10 points on the
season.

The undefeated RedHawks are 6-0-1 on the
season and flying high after a perfect August and first two weeks of September.
After opening the season with a 1-0 win on Rocky Top over the Vols, the
RedHawks have played and won all three of their one-goal matches and also beat Union
College, 4-1. Their most recent match was a 1-0 win over Florida Atlantic, one
of four 1-0 wins this year for SEMO. In an exhibition against the SEC’s
Vanderbilt Commodores, SEMO drew with Vandy, 0-0. Their RPI is currently 99th
in the nation.

This week’s matchup marks the fourth all-time
meeting between UK and SEMO. Kentucky leads the series, 2-1, with the last meeting
coming as a 2012 UK win, 1-0. All three meetings between UK and SEMO have come
in Lexington. In 2002, UK won 2-1, and in 2011, UK won, 2-0.
