Chris Daniel claims second in pole vault, Janet Crawford takes fourth in high jump.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Feb. 26, 2000) — University of Kentuckyjunior Chris Daniel walked away with second placein the pole vault at the SEC Indoor ChampionshipsSaturday.

Daniel’s height of 16-08.75 was good enough for atie with Rocky Danners of Tennessee and gaveKentucky seven points toward the team total.

On the women’s side, freshman Janet Crawford ledthe way with a fourth-place finish in the high jump.Her leap of 5-08.50 topped her previous seasonalbest by half an inch and gave UK 4.5 team points.

Also contributing points for Kentucky were juniorRebecca Wedel in the 20-pound weight throw andjunior Shevan Threats in the long jump. Wedelgrabbed eighth place with a season and personalbest toss of 52-06.50. Her heave was 14.75 inchesfarther than her previous best. Threats also claimedan eighth-place finish with a leap of 19-09.00.

In the women’s standings after four events, Kentucky sits in seventh placewith a total of 6.50 points while Arkansas leads with 45 points. The men’sstandings have the Cats in eighth place with 7.0 points also trailing leaderArkansas, which has 37.

Competition continues Sunday in the Randal Tyson Track Center at theUniversity of Arkansas with the remainder of the field events beginning at 10a.m. and the finals of the running events beginning at 1 p.m.
