HUNTINGTON, W.V. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team stands in 17th place at the Marshall Invitational after posting a two-round score of 605 on Friday at the Guyan Golf and Country Club. The Wildcats are 29 strokes behind the opening-day leaders, Michigan.

Senior Ron Layman was the lone bright spot for the Wildcats, carding an even-par 72 in each round which places him in a tie for 6th heading into Saturday’s final round. But Layman was the only UK golfer to shoot under 150 after the first 36 holes, as the Cats equaled their fourth-worst two-round score of the season.

Layman, who possesses UK’s lowest stroke average for the 1999-2000 season, has a chance to claim his first career victory with a solid final round on Saturday. He is five strokes behind the leader, Geoff Lound of Illinois (139=69-70). The Leitchfield (Ky.) native has posted the only three top-10 finishes of his career during this season.
