KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Rebecca Wedel continued to rewrite the Universityof Kentucky record books Sunday when she set a new top mark in the hammerthrow at the Knoxville Invitational.
Wedel’s throw of 164-11.00 gave her third place in the event, but firstamong attached collegiate athletes. This was the fourth time this seasonshe has reset the record, having added over 22 feet to the top mark sincethe first meet.
Freshmen Janet Crawford and Matt Smothermon each set seasonal bests in thehigh jump. Crawford added one inch to her previous best mark coming infourth place with a jump of 5-07.00, while Smothermon added .75 inches tohis top mark of the season with a fifth-place leap of 6-08.75.
The Cats will now take two weeks to prepare for the SoutheasternConference Outdoor Championships to be held at Bernie Moore Track Stadiumon the campus of Louisiana State University, May 11-14, 2000.
