Wildcats five-game winning streak comes to an end.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (October 25, 1998) — The University of Kentucky women’s soccer teamsaw its five-game winning streak come to a close on Sunday, as the Cats fellto eighth-ranked Vanderbilt, 3-2.

UK (8-6-2, 5-3 Southeastern Conference) opened the scoring just fourminutes into the game, as forward Brooke Hergesell scored on a penaltykick. But the Commodores’ Laura Koerner evened the score less than aminute a later, when she netted a shot off a cross from Kristen Wolfe.Neither team scored again until the second half. At the 46:13 mark, Vandy’sKatie Piefer scored a goal off an assist from Koerner. The Cats scored again26 minutes later, when forward Jen McMaster netted a shot off a cross fromEmily Oetjen, evening the game at 2-2.

With only six and a half minutes remaining, Wolfe’s shot found an open netfor the Commodores, giving them the 3-2 victory. With the win, Vanderbiltimproves to 12-4 overall, 6-2 in the SEC, giving them sole possession of theNo. 2 spot in the East. UK drops to No. 3 in the SEC East.

The Cats next see action on Wednesday, Oct. 28, as they hit the road toface Dayton.
