Shonna Johnson advances in 100-meter hurdles.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (June 4, 1998) — Shonna Johnson advanced to the semifinals of thewomen’s 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor track and fieldChampionships on Thursday. Johnson’s time of 13.69 qualifies her for thesecond round on Friday, June 5.

Roshell Russell was the only other Wildcat to compete in today’s events.Russell finished fourth in her heat, but her time of 53.76 was not enough toadvance the junior to Saturday’s finals. Competition continues for Kentuckyon Friday, June 5. Along with Johnson, two other Wildcats will vie for anNCAA championship. Freshman Ola Sesay will contend in the women’striple jump, while sophomore Matt Kavanaugh will compete in the men’shammer throw.
