Wildcats Ranked No. 4 in CRCA Preseason Coaches Poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The
Kentucky rifle team enters the 2016-17 season ranked fourth in the nation for
the second consecutive year after the release of the Collegiate Rifle Coaches
Association preseason poll.
The Wildcats finished fifth at the NCAA
Championships last season.
Kentucky returns combined Second Team
All-American and GARC Air Rifle champion, Hanna Carr. In her freshman campaign,
Carr was also named First Team All-America in smallbore, Second Team
All-America in air rifle and a CRCA Scholastic All-American.
Over the summer, the Versailles,
Kentucky, native claimed the USA Shooting Junior Olympics Championship in women’s
three-position rifle and was part of Team USA, which won the women’s Gold Medal
in 10-meter air rifle and 50m three-position rifle at the ISSF World Cup in
Munich, Germany in April.
Billy Azzinaro also returns for the
Wildcats. Azzinaro took home the bronze medal in the 50-meter three-position
smallbore after just finishing one point behind the silver at the USA Shooting
Junior Olympic Championships.
For the first matches –
scheduled for Oct. 8 – the team will be split into two teams and compete in two
different matches with one taking place in Lexington at the Buell Armory
against North Georgia and the other in Oxford, Miss., for the Ole Miss
Invitational.
