UK Track and Field Travels to Indianapolis for Fairgrounds Invite
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a record-breaking weekend in Fayetteville, Kentucky’s track and field team travels north to Indianapolis, Ind. for the Fairgrounds Invitational at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Fall Creek Pavilion on Saturday.
The Wildcats’ events will begin with the women’s long jump at 11:00 a.m. EST, and conclude with the women’s 4x400m at 4:55 p.m. EST.
In the USTFCCCA’s second Indoor Track & Field Ratings Index Rankings of 2025, the Kentucky women dropped one spot from last week’s rankings to No. 23, coming in at No. 3 in the SEC ranks. Last week at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., the Wildcats recorded seven personal records, including Oneika McAnnuff finishing with a personal best 52.15 time in the 400m final, the third-best time in program history in that event. Freshman Janet Jepkemboi Amimo also recorded a personal record, as well as a school and freshman record, of 2:03.25 in the 800m invite final.
The men’s squad enters the weekend meet ranked 40th in the national poll. Junior sprinter Carlie Makarawu maintains the nation’s second-best mark in the 200m with his 20.48 finish at the Corky Classic on Jan. 18. When converted to altitude, the Olympic finalist holds the second overall spot on the NCAA Indoor Qualifying List at 20.55 seconds. Last weekend in Fayetteville, the Wildcats finished with six personal records and a freshman record from Collins Kiprop Kipngok in the mile final. In the same event, sophomore Ed Bird completed his mile run in 3:58.18, a personal-best finish and the third-best finish in UK history.
