The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team defeated Miami University (Ohio), 2-1, Sunday, Sept. 17, at the UK Soccer Complex. This was the first meeting between the teams.

“It was a hard-fought victory. We did not play to our capabilities,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “We need to step onto the field and perform every time we play.”

Kentucky (7-1, 1-0 SEC) found its first goal in the 67th minute as Alli Haeussler knocked the ball in off the right post from Annie Gage. The assist was number 20 for Gage, breaking the school record for career assists, previously held by Miami assistant coach Kim LaBelle.

Miami (3-3) answered in the 78th minute as Danielle Altiero scored when Kentucky goalkeeper Beth Wells went down. Altiero shot the ball over Wells’ head into the left corner of the net. Wells saved every Redhawk shot (6) but the lone goal in the game.

The Wildcats battled back and Keri Boyce scored the game-winner in the 86th minute. Boyce caught the pass in front of the goal and nailed the ball into the back left corner. Haeussler and Elizabeth Ramsey recorded the double assist.

Kentucky is still a shooting machine, taking 21 shots on goal in the game for a season total of 178 shots.

The Wildcats will travel next weekend to battle Evansville on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 2:30 p.m. ET at the Arad McCutchan Stadium.
