LOUISVILLE, Ky. The University of Kentucky track and field squads completed competition at the University of Louisville Cardinal Open with 15 first-place finishes on Friday, April 27. In the 20 events in which the Cats performed, they also tallied seven seconds and six thirds.Leading the way for the women were Rebecca Wedel and Janet Crawford. Wedel won the hammer throw with a personal-best heave of 172.01.00, adding more than seven feet to her previous best. Crawford also set a personal best with her first-place leap of 5-09.25 in the high jump, adding a quarter of an inch to her previous top mark.

Simidele Adeagbo, who is ranked 14th in the country in the triple jump, and Molly Lonergan, who is No. 20 nationally in the discus, also won their events, while Adeagbo claimed first in the long jump as well. Other winners for the women included Demetrius Roberts (100 meters), Michelle Williams (200 meters and 100-meter hurdles), Marie Patton (800 meters), Beth Heimann (1,500 meters) and Olubusola Adeagbo (400-meter hurdles).

On the men’s side, Andrew VanderWagen leapt a season-best 6-09.75 to win the high jump, while Kevin Panke crossed the finish line 3:55.87 to take the honors in the 1,500 meters. Bryan Wilson (110-meter hurdles) and Scott Theis (shot put) also gave UK the top spot.

The Cats now take a two-week break before heading to the Southeastern Conference Championships in Columbia, S.C., on May 10-13.
