Women’s Soccer Travels to No. 3 Mississippi State Thursday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s soccer (10-2-4, 2-2-4) will conclude the road portion of their Southeastern Conference regular season when they head to Starkville to face No. 3 Mississippi State (13-1-0, 7-0-0) on Thursday, October 24th at 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT at the MSU Soccer Field. The match will also be televised on SECN+.

The Wildcats enter the match after holding No. 11 Auburn to a 0-0 draw last Friday. It was an extremely defensive battle between the two sides with very little room for mistakes. Kentucky had two chances on goal and nearly scored the winner early in the second half, but the Tigers denied the upset. Despite earning just one point, the Wildcats were the first and only team in the nation so far to keep the Tigers off the scores sheet this season and remain undefeated at home. Kentucky has also gone undefeated at home in its last 12 matches, a program record, dating back to last season. Entering the match Kentucky remains tied for eighth in the Southeastern Conference standings with 10 points.

No. 3 Mississippi State enters the match after defeating Ole Miss (5-11-1, 0-7-1) 2-0 on the road this past Friday for their fifth straight Magnolia Cup victory. Goals from scoring leader Ally Perry and Aitana Martinez-Montoya led the Bulldogs over the Rebels for their 10th straight victory this season. The Bulldogs rank in the top five in multiple categories within the SEC this season including goals against average (0.214), save percentage (0.912), shutout percentage (0.857), goal differential (27), shots per game (19.36), assists per game (2.07), points per game (6.36), shots on goal per game (7.79) and scoring offense (2.14).

Kentucky leads the all-time series with a 14-7-0 record with a 6-4-0 away record against the Bulldogs. The Wildcats last faced the Bulldogs in Starkville in 2021, losing 0-1. The Wildcats also fell to Mississippi State in the previous meeting in 2023, 0-2, and haven’t won in Mississippi since 2017, a 1-0 win.
