Kentucky Men’s Tennis Continues Fall Slate at ITA Ohio Valley Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After a two-week hiatus, the Kentucky Men’s Tennis team is set to resume its 2024 fall campaign, heading to West Lafayette, Ind. for the annual ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships. The tournament will run from October 10-14 at the Schwartz Tennis Center on the campus of Purdue University and feature qualifying spots to the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships for the two singles finalists and the doubles champion.

Martin Breysach, Charlelie Cosnet, Jack Loutit, and Jaden Weekes are entered into the tournament’s singles draw, while Matt Rankin and Eli Stephenson are slated to compete in singles and doubles.

Cosnet and Weekes both had successful runs at the ITA All-American Championships last month, with both Wildcats qualifying into the tournament’s main draw. Weekes, a junior from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, advanced to the tournament’s Round of 32—two matches from a bid to the NCAA Singles Championship—from pre-qualifying, winning six consecutive matches before being eliminated in a tough, three-set match against Corey Craig from Florida State. The 2024 All-SEC Second Team member is 9-1 this fall after a 3-0 season debut at the SEC Challenge.

Breysach and Rankin have also seen success in fall action, with each player earning a tournament title in the month of September. Breysach, a junior transfer from Baylor, opened his Wildcat career with four consecutive wins on his way to the Louisville Invitational Flight A title. Rankin, a sophomore from Edinburgh, Scotland, is 5-1 in 2024 after claiming the top flight championship at the EKU Invite.

The Ohio Valley Region—determined by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association—is comprised on schools from Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, and Ohio. The event is one of 13 regional championships held across the country over the coming weeks. In total, 26 singles selections and 13 doubles entries for the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships—happening in the fall for the first time— will be decided at these events. The remaining spots in the 64-player singles draw and 32-team doubles draw have either been awarded at the ITA All-American Championships or will be decided at the ITA Sectional Championships and ITA Conference Masters.
