Women’s Soccer Begins Road Stretch in Oklahoma
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s soccer (8-1-2, 0-1-2) travels to Norman, Oklahoma on Sunday to battle the Sooners (8-3-0, 1-2-0) for the first time in program history. The match begins a short stretch of back-to-back road games for the Wildcats in Southeastern Conference play with the team traveling to Alabama next Thursday. Sunday’s match will kick off at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT and will be televised on SECN+.
The Wildcats enter the match after tying Georgia 1-1 on Thursday at home. The Wildcats led 1-0 through much of the match but suffered an equalizing goal in the 80th minute from the Bulldogs. The Wildcats have collected just two points from their opening three games of conference play and are desperate to get a result on the road against the Sooners. Kentucky has a 1-1-0 record in their two away games so far this season scoring and conceding two goals.
Oklahoma, a program that has received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 in the latest update, enters the match after losing 3-1 on the road against LSU. The Tigers led 1-0 at the half and doubled their lead just five minutes into the second half of play. The Sooners got one back courtesy of an own goal by LSU, but the Tigers put the game away at 3-1 just seven minutes later. Despite outshooting the Tigers 11-3, the Sooners ended up on the wrong side of the score sheet with the Tigers scoring three of their four shots on goal in the match.
